The new UBS Kids Cup will represent an ideal platform for more than 70,000 young athletes - throughout Switzerland and throughout the year.

With its new role as a title sponsor of the national athletics kids programme, UBS is to expand its commitment in athletics substantially. UBS also renews both long-term sponsoring agreements with Weltklasse Zürich and Athletissima Lausanne, the two Swiss Diamond League meetings. more

11.05.2010 - Sanya Richards-Ross: "I hope to be back in Oslo."

Sanya Richards-Ross was today’s guest star at the Weltklasse Zürich media conference. The 400m World Champion is currently recovering from a quadriceps injury suffered in training.

Instead of travelling on to compete at the inaugural meeting of the IAAF Diamond League, the track star, who married New York Giant Aaron Ross this winter, will therefore spend a week in Switzerland. She will be treated by the Zurich-based physiotherapist Adrik Mantingh during her stay, so that she will be able to be back on track as soon as possible. more

11.05.2010 - Weltklasse Zürich to Be the First of Two IAAF Diamond League Finals

Weltklasse Zürich will mark the 2010 season highlight for sprint superstar Usain Bolt, 5000m Olympic Champion Kenenisa Bekele, and 400m World Champion Sanya Richards-Ross.

On 19 August 2010, 16 of 32 event finals of the newly initiated IAAF Diamond League will be staged at the Zurich Letzigrund Stadium. Tickets for this very special night of athletics go on sale today. In August, Weltklasse Zürich will again draw the top stars of track and field to Letzigrund Stadium. more

01.05.2010 - European Athletics Championships 2014 to Be Held in Zurich

On the occasion of its meeting in Prangins (Switzerland) today, European Athletics has decided that Zurich is to stage the European Athletics Championships in 2014.

The European Athletics Council has awarded the right to host its most important event to Zurich after a convincing presentation by Swiss Athletics, the Canton and the City of Zurich. The success of the Swiss candidacy will bring the European Athletics Championships to the country for the second time, after the 1954 edition in Berne. more

21.12.2009 - Zurich is number one in 2009 with 16 Berlin Champions competing

In the statistical survey of one day top meetings in terms of individual World Champions from Berlin 2009 participating the best is Weltklasse of Zurich with 16 such athletes.

It should be noted that meetings after the championships already knew the names of champions. From the meetings before Berlin the best is Rome, Lausanne and London with 13 champions. Here it should be noted that London was staged over two days with more events and that means more options to have future champions. more

28.08.2009 - World record for Isinbayeva in Zurich: 5,06m

One can reflect on this year's Weltklasse meeting and appreciate the superb efforts of many athletes only days after the completion of their events in the World Championships.

Certainly the most memorable moment came when Russia's Yelena Isinbayeva redeemed herself by vaulting a world record 5.06 only a week after her ignominious (and rare) failure in Berlin.  Coming at the end of the evening, this spectacular moment-followed by a fireworks display-sent the sellout crowd home in a festive mood. more

27.08.2009 - The Stars of Athletics Gather at Weltklasse Zürich

The audience in the sold-out Letzigrund Stadium can expect a unique post-championship showdown at Weltklasse Zürich on Friday. Four world record holders, 16 newly-crowned world champions and 14 2008 Olympic champions, as well as many medal winners will be lining up in the meeting's programme of 16 events.

Meeting Director Patrick K. Magyar looks forward to the 2009 edition of Weltklasse Zürich: „Our stars are healthy and well rested. And we are hoping for good weather. Everything is ready for an outstanding night of athletics." 27.08.2009 - Carbon-Neutral Weltklasse Zürich: Stars to Travel by Tram

A special tram will take Usain Bolt and all other stars to and from the stadium in a swift and safe ride. The new local means of transportation represents a contribution to the first carbon-neutral Weltklasse Zürich in 2009.
